About Us
The who, the where and the why behind our glamping site Campden Yurts!

About us - your glamping site hosts

Thank you so much for taking time to find out about us…the family behind the Campden Yurts glamping site. We are the Corners – Jane, Neil, Elly and Billy. Also here with us is Jane’s sister Cate, her Dutch Mum, Dieuwke, and our free-range chickens.πŸ“ This is a family affair!

I (Jane) has been involved in hospitality in one way or another for many years. Starting in hotels, an outdoor pursuits centre, retreat house, arts/events centre and now a glamping site! I feel I have been able to pull together all that matters to me – providing a unique, outdoorsy, safe space for guests, and doing my bit to care for the environment (read about our sustainability aims and commitment below).

Our home, Hillside Nursery, is a 5 acre smallholding on the outskirts of the historic market town of Chipping Campden. This is the most northerly point of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) known as The Cotswolds.Β

Before becoming a glamping site, this little corner of the Cotswolds was a rundown, overgrown plant nursery. In 1971, Jane’s parents bought the land and worked hard to create a self-sufficient way of life. They filled the smallholding with goats, ponies and chickens and grew their own fruit and vegetables. For over 40 years they lived this way, close to the earth and simple. It was certainly a labour of love, but they valued the simplicity of this way of living. πŸπŸ΄πŸ“πŸ

In 2008 Jane and Neill moved back to Hillside Nursery full time. After a few years raising young children, we began to think about what we could do with the land. Out of those plans and dreams came our glamping site Campden Yurts.

Opening for guests in 2017, the yurts have hosted hundreds of families, couples and groups who come to enjoy a change of scene and to enjoy this beautiful area.

Jane runs the online and physical side of the business and will be your point of contact from initial booking through to welcoming you onto the site when you arrive and waving you off when you leave. I will also be available if you have any problems during your stay.

You may meet Neil too at the pizza evenings and catch a brief glimpse of the kids, if you are lucky!

We want guests to be able to relax as soon as they arrive. To come through the gates and feel their holiday has already begun. We invite you to have a unique holiday, make memories, enjoy the great outdoors and experience luxury yurt camping.

Our glamping site and sustainability aims:

Our aim is to be as sustainable as possible, consequently ‘to do very little harm’. Therefore, where possible, we use solar powered lighting such as in the yurts and indoor/outdoor shelter. To reduce use of plastic we provide glass water bottles, storage containers and metal water flasks. Where possible we recharge, recycle and re-purpose. The fire wood is from local estates and produce for the breakfast hampers from local farmshops. We also clean using ecological products like Ecover and Method.

Even Bob our cob pizza oven which we use for guest’s pizza parties is made from our own clay soil and local stone! You can read more about him and our pizza parties in our blogs.

Green Tourism have given us a Bronze award, however we are always looking to do more!

A desire to reduce waste is one reason why we do not have hot tubs on the glamping site – they use too much water which cannot be reused.

To read more about the history of the site and the journey to where it is today, see our blog on the History of Hillside Nursery.Β  Thank you.

Quotes from our guests

“Thank you for a lovely few days. The yurt was amazing and your attention to detail is just perfect. Thank you for keeping the fire going for us!! A great way to celebrate my 50th birthday with my special friends.”

“Lovely place, lovely yurts. Everything you need for a stay in the countryside. Felt welcomed and at home. Definitely coming back.”

“Thank you for being so nice and welcoming (delicious cake also). We have had a lovely weekend of yurting. So much more homely than camping! You have an excellent site, our 3 children thoroughly enjoyed the open space and fresh air – not to mention the visits from the chickens. We hope to be back soon – a week or more as requested by our eldest! Hope to see you again and the chickens! Love to all…”
